November 2004 - California (map)

Another month in California is past us. I have to admit, even though we have not adjusted to the hectic pace here the weather cannot be beat for a winter home.

Joan and I where getting cabin fever so we took a couple of trips late in November. The first one was a trip my father and I have talked about for several years. He is a train fan and one of the most unique train passes is located a few hours north of his home. The Tehachepi Loop is an engineering marvel located in Tehachepi, CA where trains making the climb out of the Bakersfield actually loop over themselves at the Tehachepi Loop. On the way to the Loop we visited the Railroad Museum in Barstow, CA. Took some great photos and had a very nice trip.

We returned to Joan's brothers home in San Diego for a few days over Thanksgiving. We did some more sight seeing around the city and had a great Thanksgiving dinner with JD and Becky.

One of the things Joan does to keep busy is make quilts. She has made dozens of quilts for family and friends. When we where in Denver on our way to California Joan's niece Lacey asked her if she would make a couple of quilts. It turned out Lacy had just learned she was pregnant with her first child. Her husbands father had recently passed away and they had saved all of his favorite shirts and hoped Joan could make a couple of quilts from them. A lap quilt for Johns mother and a baby quilt for the new baby. Joan finished Dixie's lap quilt this month and has started work on the baby quilt.

Well, not much more to report. Watch for more journals soon.
