We began the month parked at the A-AAA RV Park in Newcastle, OK. My boss had asked me to come work in the office for a couple of months while we searched for and trained a replacement for one of our key people who was leaving the company. I agreed even though I much preferred to travel and manage different jobs. As it turned out our stay in the office was to be limited but more on that later.
When we where planning to come to the Oklahoma City area we checked the listings in Woodalls and Trailer Life and as we have seen in other larger cities the selection was very limited. We where fortunate to find A-AAA RV Park in Newcastle and it was only about 15 miles to my office. This RV park is family owned and operated by the Ted Boyce and his wife, children and grandchildren. They are a wonderful family and will go out of their way to make sure their guests are taken care of. The rates are extremely fair and the setting is quiet and beautiful. Check them out if you are ever in the area.
One of our side trips was into Oklahoma City to visit the Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum. What a treat! This museum has a very extensive collection of western art and western heritage artifacts. It also has a replica of an old western town with displays set up inside the buildings so you can see what life was like. Take the time to visit, you'll be glad you did.
Our traveling cats, Thelma and Louise, provide us many hours of entertainment so when we are parked anywhere we try to provide some distractions for them. While here we purchased two birds feeders to hang from our awning. The cats get real excited watching the birds that come to feed every morning. One morning they where very surprised to see a squirrel had found the feeder and was enjoying the free meals. Thelma and Louise where beside themselves trying to figure out what that thing hanging from the feeder was.
I've decided to add a monthly map that shows our travels for each journal. I've gone back and added the links to our other journal entries. You can see this months map by selecting the map link next to the title at the top of the page.
As I mentioned earlier our visit in this area was shorter than expected. When I agreed to work out of the office it was explained to me it would be for two months. Well, after one month I was asked to stay in the office for an unknown length of time. I explained to my bosses I did not want an office job and that I did not sell my home and buy an RV so I could work out of an office. I enjoy traveling with my wife and wanted to continue to do so. Since we could not come to an agreement I left the company on August 31st. Joan and I have decided to take the next year off to travel the country, see the sites and visit family. Maybe we will find a way to supplement our income while still enjoying the RV lifestyle.
