Jazz Fest Camping (maps)

Once we had decided to attend the Jazz Fest we started looking around for campgrounds in New Orleans. We found several but they where all on the outskirts and several miles from the Fairgrounds Racetrack where the fest is held each year. While looking on the Jazz Fest web site one day we stumbled across a link for camping very near the Jazz Fest. What happens each year is Creative World Rallies and Caravans , based in New Orleans, leases part of the parking area inside the Tad Gormley Stadium that has been set up to accommodate vendors. With members of the Big Easy Rollers acting as hosts they have space for 30 or so rigs to camp with water and very limited electric hookups. The electric is enough to keep batteries charged and run TV's but if the temperature heats up will not support AC units. All of this is inside the fence at the stadium which is located inside City Park. It's about a 1 1/2 mile walk to the Fairgrounds Racetrack through the beautiful City Park or, like we did, you can drive to the southeast corner of City Park and park near the Museum of Art. From there it's about a 1/2 mile walk in.

While the electric was limited we thourghly enjoyed ourselves at this site. The people we met where fantastic, the hosts from the Big Easy Rollers where very nice and helpful and the staff of Creative World was available to help with anything that came up. I would recommend this to anyone who is planning to attend the visit the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in the future.
